Rising alt-pop star Oli has released a new singe, “Only You” a captivating blend of soulful melodies and jazz-infused rhythms that delve into the intricacies of romantic desire and emotional vulnerability. The track serves as a preview of her upcoming debut album, “When It All Goes Quiet”, set to release on October 25th.
Oil showcases her evolving sound through her new single, merging her signature melancholic style with the playful allure of jazz. As Oli states “Only You is about someone being outsmarted and outplayed romantically, then realising you’re infatuated with them“, as well as stating that there is a sense of “desperation in the song”.
This emotional tension reverberates throughout the track, reflected in its arrangement that juxtaposes moody, somber chords with a lively jazz-inspired rhythm. The single is co-produced by her long time collaborator, Benny D, known for his work with Stormzy and Paloma Faith.
Born in New Jersey and raised in London, Oli’s musical influences are a rich tapestry woven from the classic sounds of Sade and Dionne Warwick to the indie bands of the 2000s UK scene.
