Breaking news: Just a few hours from the death of XXXTentacion, the same unbelievable story seems like just a terrifying loop repeating itself. Upcoming US rapper Jimmy Wopo was found dead after being shot yesterday evening in the Pittsburgh Hill District of Pennsylvania.
Even the circumstances are undoubtedly similar, as both cases were drive-by shootings. What happened to Jimmy Wopo, whose real name was Travon Smart, is an inexplicable attack. While in his vehicle, he was shot twice at from close range and the two bullet holes can be seen in the driver’s side window of the car.
A witness reported that she saw the rapper being followed by someone that then fled away, and for now that is all that we know. Moreover, and at this stage, it appears the two murders are not related, and it is just a case of tragic coincidence.
Wopo began in the music scene back in 2015, when he was just 18. Across his fast and unfortunately broken career, he released singles and mixtapes: in 2016 Woponese and one year ago Back Against the Wall. He was producing with Sonny Digital and they had some projects ready to come out, like a collaborative mixtape called Jimmy Digital.
Wopo was considered another brilliant emerging rap talent and it was his manager Taylor Maglin who posted the sad news on social media. He added a heartfelt comment, saying “He was destined for greatness”.
The success isn’t sometimes the key to happiness, as it is proved with both these young stars and, like many before them, they were struggling with hidden demons, like drugs, legal problems and violence. Find your peace now and go on rapping together, this is our prayer.
