Her music is masterful, weird and at times insanely abstract, and her lyrics are almost always superb. PJ Harvey as a poet though? The literary genre does seem to get confused with musicians these days, but can she pull it off? On a first listen of a poem called “The Guest Room”, it seems she’s pining to use a lyrical style, but insists on poetic prose, so respect to that. The reading struggles to find a flow in order to develop its subject matter in the imaginary form, she does bring out the imaginary form but the words are somehow secondary to her ideas. The collection called The Hollow of the Hand is to be published in October 2015. Take a listen to “The Guest Room” to see what you think.
