Posthumous SOPHIE Album Set For September Release

Scottish producer SOPHIE, who tragically passed away in January 2021 at the age of 34, was working on her second album at the time of her death. Despite her passing, her innovative music continues to resonate. Her final, posthumous album is set to be released by Transgressive and Future Classic on September 27.

This forthcoming album, simply titled Sophie includes a track named “Reason Why” featuring BC Kingdom and Kim Petras.

The release follows her debut album, “Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides” which came out in June 2018 and earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album in 2019.

A statement shared by Transgressive on Twitter revealed that SOPHIE’s family, along with Future Classic, decided to honor the late producer by releasing an album of previously unheard tracks. In their announcement, her family expressed that they find solace in the music SOPHIE left behind, referring to it as a cherished gift that keeps her spirit alive.

Sophie gave all of herself to her music” her family stated. “It’s here that she can always be found.” They also released the new track “Reason Why” as part of the announcement, further showcasing her enduring influence.

SOPHIE’s brother and longtime collaborator, Benny Long, confirmed the existence of unreleased music and noted that she was nearly finished with her sophomore album before her death.

Sophie will be available through Transgressive and Future Classic on September 27. This release promises to celebrate SOPHIE’s legacy, keeping her avant-garde spirit and groundbreaking music alive for her fans and the world to experience.
