Pussy Riot have released a video for their Eric Garner inspired song and their first song in English “I Can’t Breath”. Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s played bass and piano on the track whilst Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow oversaw electronics. The video, shot in one continuous take, features both Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha Alyokhina getting buried alive wearing Russian police uniforms. The song features the last words of Eric Garner who was killed by police in New York last July. His words were recited by punk icon Richard Hell who had given up music in 1984. Hell described himself as a ‘priveledged white guy’ when he spoke of reservations he had about reciting the words of Garner – a black male killed by white police. After meeting Nadya and Masha, however, their idea won him over and his mind was made up; telling the story of police brutality was the most important issue. The video is available here.
