For his autumn/winter 2022 collection, Ralph Lauren is banking on timeless black and white, embodying elegance, for men and women. It was at the Museum of Modern Art in New York that the luxury house presented its new collection, making its grand return to the catwalk (a first since 2019).
The showroom recreated the world of the house: sleek architecture, sculptural design, art objects and spectacular views of the Big Apple. The show started on a jazzy note and we got to see Gigi Hadid with her famous hair flip, in a white shirt under a black RL monogrammed jumper, tucked into suit trousers, oversized Ricky bag in hand.
Alongside the young model, the designer called on a star-studded cast of different generations of supermodels, including the sister of the beautiful Gigi, Bella Hadid and Shalom Harlow, who all descended a staircase on a mirrored floor and made their way into Ralph Lauren’s modernist American salon, where guests sat in leather seats around low tables.
Among the prestigious guests were Jessica Chastain, Lily Collins, Janelle Monáe, Angus Cloud, Henry Golding and, in an invitation symbolic of Ralph Lauren’s convictions, President Biden’s daughter Naomi Biden and granddaughter Finnegan Biden.
For the finale, Ralph Lauren, who turned 82 last year, came to bow out to a standing ovation. Speaking about his show, he said: “I am so proud to be here again to share not only a collection, but a way of life that respects the dignity of all”.
