Following on from his critically acclaimed 2016 mixtape Englistan and the cult classic Swet Shop Boys album Cashmere, Riz Ahmed aka Riz MC proudly announces the release of his brand new single “Mogambo”.
This defiant, Redinho-produced banger sees Ahmed back on furious form, as he declares to those who “wanna kill us” that we aren’t going anywhere. Riz issues a swaggering survival anthem for the Trump era – warning against the infighting of online call-out culture, and the futility of activists that “bring a tweet to a gunfight”.
Riz confronts the rising call to wipe out marginalised groups like a “cockroach” and turns it deftly on its head, reminding us that so-called cockroaches have always outlived the competition.
The video was directed by New York based filmmaker Bassam Tariq in Pakistan which addresses masculinity in an interesting way as the video revolves around ameteur wrestling. The dedication, the passion; It’s raw but really depicts one element of real life for a section of society in Pakistan.
