Despite the generally positive reviews behind David Fincher‘s 2011 The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, it seems as if fans just aren’t destined to get a sequel and the movies star, Rooney Mara, has claimed it’s unlikely a sequel will ever make it to production. Also starring the likes of Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgard and Robin Wright, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo told the story of journalist Mike Blomkvist (Craig) and his search for a women who went missing 40 years ago, with the aid of a young computer hacker, Lisbeth Salander (Mara).
The film gained pretty positive feedback with both fans and critiques but unfortunately didn’t perform as well as hoped at the box office. This caused the studio to reduce the budget for any potential sequel. Fincher eventually walked away from the project and with Mr. James Bond himself coming with a hefty salary, there was slim chance that a sequel would surface and when Mara spoke recently in an interview, it seems even less likely than ever. Mara told E! Online; “I don’t think it’s going to happen. I’m sad never to do it again, but it just doesn’t seem like it’s in the cards”.
While Sony is yet to make an official statement regarding any possible sequels, it seems as if this franchise just isn’t meant to be, which is a shame because Rooney Mara continues to be an outstanding talent and well, anything by Fincher is work a watch for me.
