Canadian singer-songwriter Ryan Wayne, known for his work with The Warped 45s, has teamed up with vocalist Felicity Williams for their latest single, “Grand Illusions.” This release marks a significant step in Wayne’s return to music after a challenging period in his life.
After several years away from the music scene, Wayne experienced two strokes in early 2022. During his recovery, he found solace in music, leading him to complete a series of self-produced tracks. These songs, including “Grand Illusions,” were finalized with the help of Grammy-winning producer Malcolm Burn, renowned for his work with artists like Bob Dylan and Emmylou Harris.
Wayne’s roots in music run deep, having grown up in Oshawa, Ontario, surrounded by a family of musicians. His father, a songwriting truck driver, and countless family singalongs at their cabin in the Madawaska Valley shaped his musical journey. This upbringing is reflected in his authentic and heartfelt songwriting.
Throughout his career, Wayne has toured internationally, sharing the stage with notable artists such as The Drive-By Truckers and Deer Tick. His musical talents have also been featured on recordings, including playing mandolin on Dan Mangan’s “Road Regrets.”
“Grand Illusions” is part of Wayne’s upcoming album, “Crow Amongst the Sparrows,” set for release in 2023. This collaboration with Felicity Williams highlights Wayne’s ability to create emotionally resonant music, blending his experiences with his deep musical roots.
As Wayne continues his journey in the music world, “Grand Illusions” serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience and passion that drive his artistry.
