Since they first came to prominence a few years ago, the UK group SAULT has been putting out music at a rapid pace; only this year, they’ve already released an EP called Angel and an album called AIR via surprise releases.
They also occasionally release music that you must purchase within a particular window of time like they did last year when they made their album NINE accessible for just 99 days.
Today, SAULT launched five new albums. They can be downloaded for free for five days, but they require a password. In a social media post, they stated, “We will release 5 albums on November 1st as an offering to God”, the group wrote on Twitter. “Available for free download for 5 days. The word unlocks all 5 albums is in the message. Love Sault X”.
Earth, Today & Tomorrow, 11, AIIR, God, and (Untitled) are the names of the five albums.
While the move is uncommon, it is very much on-message for the group, which is led by producer Inflo, who has previously worked with Little Simz, Michael Kiwanuka, and, most recently, Adele.
Since its debut in 2018, the group has been incredibly active while remaining purposely mysterious, declining interviews and even photographs, with just composer and production credits revealing their names. Cleo Sol, a singer, is also a notable member.
Their music is an experimental but typically sparse type of R&B, ranging from simple vocals with bass and percussion to highly orchestrated compositions; the group’s most recent album, Air, was a purely symphonic recording. Aiir appears to be a symphonic follow-up album. Its albums are frequently titled with numbers or Untitled with a subtitle in parentheses.
The previous album, Nine, was only available as a download for nine days. All five albums published today, including Nine are not available on streaming sites.
The group preceded the release of today’s record with a 10-minute single that was actually three songs blended into one, also with a religious theme.
