Scarlett Johansson is in early talks to star in Reflective Light, an upcoming drama from Focus features. The film is the directorial debut for art photographer Gregory Crewdson, with Marc Platt producing along with Platt Productions’ Jared LeBoff.
Reflective Light is an adaptation of Carla Buckley‘s 2014 novel The Deepest Secret, adapted for the screen by Crewdson and partner Juliane Hiam. It follows a teenage boy, gravely allergic to sunlight.
Johansson’s prospective role is that of the teenager’s mother, “so devoted to her son’s care that she has alienated the rest of their family, creating an oddly sustainable nocturnal lifestyle for him at the expense of her own well-being. When a neighborhood girl goes missing, the balance that kept them afloat begins to unravel“.
The role is vastly different to Johansson’s tendencies. She’s maintained a rather busy schedule in comedies and action movies, namely this year’s controversial Ghost in the Shell and her run as the Black Widow in the Avengers series. She can be seen next in Avengers: Infinity War.
