Scottish folk-pop artist Alannah Moar is back on the musical horizon with her buoyant new single “Reciprocate”, a follow-up to her recent single, “About The Boy”.
Emanating what can best be described as warm sunset vibes, the self-produced and mixed track showcases Alannah’s distinctive voice, which effortlessly combines the depth of folk and the effervescence of pop.
Interestingly, the roots of “Reciprocate” can be traced back to one of Alannah’s earliest compositions when she was just 14. The song offers a unique perspective on the internal conflict faced in a relationship – the tussle between head and heart. It delves into the anguish of opting to leave a wholesome relationship for an alluring yet detrimental one. Although the undertone is tragic, the track doesn’t lose its vibrant and catchy pop essence.
Revisiting the song’s origins, Alannah shared, “The song has had many different lives. It was one of the first songs I ever wrote when I was like 14. I came back to this song during a creatively drained phase, and while the original lyrics were lackluster, the melodies retained their charm.”
She further elaborated on the narrative, emphasizing the dilemma of the individual torn between two relationships. Alannah’s involvement in the song’s production exemplifies her hands-on approach to music. “Producing is like solving a puzzle. It’s about figuring out what’s missing and how elements fit together,” she described.
A native of Orkney but now based in Glasgow, Alannah Moar’s music is a captivating blend of “dramatic folk-pop.” Her influences, ranging from Fleetwood Mac and Taylor Swift to Dodie and Gabrielle Aplin, echo in her compositions. With rich vocal harmonies, shimmering guitar melodies, and celestial synths, she crafts a sound that’s unmistakably her own.
Having shared the stage with renowned artists like KT Tunstall and Amanda Palmer, Alannah’s musical journey is notable. She was also recognized as Resonate’s artist of the week twice and earned a nomination for Single of the Year at the 2022 Weekender Awards.
“Reciprocate” promises not just an auditory treat but also a journey through emotions, making it a must-listen for all music enthusiasts. Listen to it below!
