Scottish singer-songwriter Blair Davie (they/them) returns with an exciting new release, “Coming Of Age.” This track marks a significant step forward in their musical journey, showcasing a more euphoric and upbeat energy while maintaining the emotional depth.
Produced by Thom Lewis, known for his work with Sam Fender, “Coming Of Age” builds on the indie-pop aesthetic that has resonated with fans and critics alike. With its bright, upbeat energy, the track represents a new chapter for Davie.
The song was created during a session with Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Jamie Squire, and Derrick Southerland. Blair recalled, “We were challenged to write something with tempo that still hits the heart but can make you dance at the same time,” which led to the creation of this exciting juxtaposition between an upbeat rhythm and emotional lyrics
The song’s inspiration came from Blair’s reflections on the complexity of growing up. “The formative teenage years were some of the best and worst times of my life,” they shared. “It’s a time when you’re confused, vulnerable, and excited all at once.” This theme of navigating the highs and lows of growing up is captured in the song’s honest, bold lyrics and its driving, danceable beat.
Blair Davie, originally from Perth, Scotland, began their musical career at an early age, recording their first record at just 12 years old. Their teenage years were spent fronting various bands, honing their craft, and developing a unique sound that blends emotional, heartfelt lyrics with indie-pop sensibilities.
Drawing inspiration from artists like Dodie, Dermot Kennedy, and Bon Iver, Blair’s music is deeply personal, exploring themes of bisexuality, loss, heartbreak, and the beauty of life itself.
Blair’s upcoming UK tour with Benjamin Francis Leftwich will see them perform in cities including Hull, Blackpool, Glasgow, Middlesbrough, and London, further cementing their place as an up coming artist.
After a series of highly praised singles like “Stairs,” “Platform 10,” and “Him, Hymn,” as well as intimate performances at festivals like The Great Escape and Sziget, Blair’s unique voice and raw honesty have made them one of the most anticipated new artists in the indie scene today.
