Vin Diesel knows how to stay loyal to his brands. Having starred in two big action franchises of the 2000’s, The Chronicles of Riddick and The Fast and the Furious, the action movie veteran has consistently returned to the two roles that cemented his career, fugitive ‘Riddick’ for two sequels and master criminal Dominic Toretto for five. It’s actually quite refreshing, a non pretentious ethic from an actor grateful to his roots.
Diesel announced on Facebook today that a sequel to his upcoming movie The Last Witch Hunter is already in the works: “So the studio apparently is so excited by the Last Witch Hunter – The Axe and Cross franchise… that they are already commencing on the next one. The first one doesn’t hit theaters until October 23rd, yet they want me to commit and already block out time to film it. As always, I love to hear your feedback”.
The Last Witch Hunter is about an immortal warrior (Diesel) that must save humanity from a deadly plague created by a coven of witches. He must team up with an ancient nemesis, a beautiful witch (Rose Leslie) to fight the coven. Diesel has hinted previously that this movie may be the first in a series that will chronicle an expansive fantasy world. Breck Eisner (The Crazies 2010) is the director of the Summit Entertainment project working from a script by Corey Goodman (that has actually been reworked twice before filming). If the movie does well, we could see a succession of them, letting Diesel stay true to his career model.
