South Wales Artist Alcie Bela has released a new single titled “Checkmate”. According to her, “it’s the story of a man on the run who has left everything he owns behind and is running out of time“.
The indie folk singer-songwriter has been on a quest to entirely independently record and produce her first release since going solo during the lockdown and escaping to countryside France after a house fire ruined her home in South Wales.
She has just released a five-track first EP called Botanical Imaginations with her life and music partner, award-winning Welsh blues singer-songwriter Jack Ellis, on which her new track “Checkmate” also features.
The project depicts her overcoming adversity, accepting lockdown, losing everything to the flames, and getting back on her feet to begin a new life in the French countryside.
Before “Checkmate”, her previous single “Mystery” from the EP has been supported by BBC Introducing Wales, while also being broadcast in Australia, France, and New Zealand, with over 25,000 organic Spotify streams.
In December 2020, Alcie won the Radio Wigwam Award for ‘Best Musical Collaboration’ for her debut collaboration with Jack. Following the release of their new EP Botanical Imaginations, they will go on a UK and French tour this summer.
