It seems as if Terrence Malick can do no wrong and the trailer for his new drama Knight of Cups, just solidifies that notion. The stunning new introduction to Malick’s movie staring The Dark Knight actor, Christian Bale, continues to set Malick apart from other filmmakers with his constant cinematography triumphs and beautiful visual style. Bale stars as lost-boy character, Rick, as he deals with a life of Hollywood crutches, including lust, temptation, celebrity and excess. Malick’s beautifully poetic nature to his work is on full show in the new trailer, with impeccable cinematography from Emmanuel Lubezki.
Here’s the wonderfully whimsical synopsis via Collider; Once there was a young prince whose father, the king of the East, sent him down into Egypt to find a pearl. But when the prince arrived, the people poured him a cup. Drinking it, he forgot he was the son of a king, forgot about the pearl and fell into a deep sleep. Rick’s (Christian Bale) father used to read this story to him as a boy. The road to the East stretches out before him. Will he set forth.
Malick’s long list of beautiful movies include, Tree of Life, Badlands, The Thin Red Line and To The Wonder. Also starring Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman, Imogen Poots, Jason Clark, Antonio Banderas, Joel Kinnaman, Nick Offerman and Wes Bentley; Knight of Cups hits theatres sometime next week.
