Spotify And Mentivity Celebrate The Impact Of Youth Spaces on Culture With ‘The Centre’

Spotify and Mentivity, a youth mentoring organization, have shared The Centre, a short film that explores the pivotal role youth spaces play in nurturing young talent and influencing British culture.

Directed by Adeyemi Michael, the film features insights from UK artists like Femi Koleoso of Ezra Collective, Ms Banks, and Novelist, among others. These artists share personal anecdotes about how early experiences in youth clubs significantly shaped their careers and personal development.

Youth clubs, which have seen significant decline due to funding cuts, provide essential creative outlets for young people. Since 2010, over 750 youth centers have been shut down across the UK, creating a void in safe, creative spaces for young individuals.

Mentivity House, also opening on the 29th of July in Peckham, symbolizes a push against this trend, aiming to rebuild and maintain these crucial community hubs.

The film not only highlights the direct impact of these spaces on individuals but also underscores the broader cultural contributions of the UK’s youth. By weaving together personal stories with broader cultural impacts, “The Centre” and Mentivity House aim to celebrate and renew the commitment to nurturing the UK’s young creative talent.

The collaboration between Spotify and Mentivity exemplifies a growing trend of partnerships aimed at fostering community wellbeing and supporting youth development through creative and cultural engagement.
