Just four days since theatrical release, JJ Abrams’ revitalisation of the Star Wars franchise, The Force Awakens, has now grossed an amazing $517 million and is still climbing. With the movie taking in $279 million internationally, as well as an estimated $238 million opening weekend in North America, the force was quite literally in the film’s favour.
Today, Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn released a statement to thank the legions of Star Wars fans for making the movie the global smash it’s become: “To all of the fans around the world who not only came out in Force to make this such an exciting and astronomical debut, but who treated this film as their own and helped preserve the experience for their fellow fans by not spoiling it — thank you, we do.”
