Introducing US singer and songwriter Suzy Callahan with her brand new single titled “My Mind (Has A Mind Of Its Own)” taken from her recently released album Not Exactly Sad, which was released on June 17.
Describing her voice as “an unfried, thick, creamy, dulce de leche instrument“, Suzy Callahan’s music is an amalgamation of psychedelic folk, jazz and country music, layered with minimalistic soundscapes and cathartic realising songwriting sprinkled with a wry sense of humour.
She has recently been championed by NPR, KCRW, Chillfiltr and Bsides Badlands, among others and her music has also been featured on the TLC series Breaking Amish, with tastemakers describing her music as eclectic, bold, artistic, entrancing, artful, evocative and powerful, and we concur.
For her new Not Exactly Sad album, Suzy has collaborated with her husband and multi-instrumentalist Scott Tyburski, with the record being mixed and mastered by Floyd Reitsma, who has previously worked with Courtney Marie Andrews and Dave Mathews, among others.
She describes the album as “an awakening following this period of grieving where you are taken to the edge of the universe and back. Lyrically, my fall back is hope, but sometimes you have to sob your guts out first”. The period of grieving she references goes back to May 2018 when she lost her mother, which she also addresses on her previous album Magic.
