US pop superstar Taylor Swift debuted her new song, “Carolina”, in the first trailer for the upcoming movie Where The Crawdads Sing. This is the latest film from Reese Witherspoon’s production company, Hello Sunshine, adapted from Delia Owens’ 2018 novel of the same name.
The upcoming thriller based on the novel of the same name, revolves around Kya (Daisy Edgar-Jones), an abandoned girl raising herself in the swamps of North Carolina, who is suspected of murdering a man with whom she had a relationship.
The film’s official synopsis reads: “For years, rumors of ‘The Swamp Girl’ haunted Barkley Cove, isolating the astute and resilient Kya from her community. Intrigued by the two. A young man from the town, Kya opens herself up to a new and surprising world; but the community immediately considers her a prime suspect when one of them is found dead. Unfolds, the verdict on what really happened becomes increasingly unclear, threatening to reveal many of the secrets that lie in the swamp“.
Taylor Swift shared in an Instagram post: “‘Where The Crawdads Sing’ is the book that I absolutely fell in love with when I read it many years ago. As soon as I heard that there was a movie in the works with the participation by the incredible @daisyedgarjones and produced by the brilliant @reesewitherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of that movie from the musical side“.
She wrote the song by herself, then asked her friend Aaron Dessner to produce it. Aaron Dessner and her have also collaborated before on her last two albums, Folklore and Evermore. She continued: “I wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this enchanting story. You’ll soon hear it in full, but for now check out the @crawdadsmovie trailer for a clip“.
