Unfortunately when Terminator Genisys was released in the US, it was a disappointment to both fans and critics resulting in a poor performance at the box office only earning $89 million. This barely scraped the $155 million budget the reboot had, meaning that it was probably the last time we would hear Arnold Schwarzenegger utter the famous “I’ll Be Back“.
However, the franchise might have been saved due to its impressive performance at the foreign box office, especially in China. The film earned the fourth highest opening day box office for a U.S film earning $27.4 million when it opened on Sunday. This makes the worldwide total $335.1 million with nearly 75% coming from foreign box office. This increase in earnings might push Paramount to carry on with the franchise, so Arnie might be back after all!
