The Candid, an indie rock band from Nashville, has just released their latest single, “Just Like Me” on July 19.
Fans of artists such as Ryan Beatty, The National, Maggie Rogers, Del Water Gap or Adam Melchor will likely find “Just Like Me” particularly enjoyeable. The single promises to touch hearts with its profound lyrics and evocative melodies.
This dynamic duo, consisting of singer-songwriter Delaney Willson and drummer Mason Edwards, expertly combines candid storytelling with catchy melodies, creating a distinctive blend of folk and pop-rock influences.
Known for delving into complex themes such as imposter syndrome, hypocrisy, and the nuances of new relationships, The Candid offers a sound that resonates deeply with listeners. Their previous release, “Alright, OK!“, was a lively and playful track, but “Just Like Me” marks a shift towards introspection. The song begins with a whispered verse and builds to an emotive crescendo, showcasing a range of musical and emotional depth.
The creation of “Just Like Me” spanned eight years. Delaney Willson reflects, “The song’s hook came to me effortlessly during my freshman year of college: ‘I may have a thousand trophies catching dust upon my shelf, but isn’t it just like me to always want to be somebody else?’ At that time, I couldn’t fully grasp the weight of these words. Eventually, I realized it spoke to the hypocrisy I felt within myself and the discomfort of that realization.”
