The Courteeners’ Liam Fray recently received an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from the University of Salford. Dropping out of the university after studying Economics and then Creative writing in 2004, Fray was more than happy to be receiving such an award, commenting, “It’s so very humbling, and somewhat surreal, to be thought of and awarded a Doctorate of Arts by Salford University”.
Finally given the chance to graduate, after leaving to pursue his music career with his band The Courteeners, he thanked not only the university for honouring him with the award, but also his fans for the support they have given over the years. The band has produced four top ten albums and recently played their biggest hometown gig, selling over 25,000 tickets at Manchester’s Heaton Park. With a successful career ahead of them, they’ll continue to sell out and tour this summer, as they’re also set to play V Festival this August.
