News today from MGM/Sony is the remake of the 1960 western classic The Magnificent Seven, itself based on the 1954 great Seven Samurai, has cast its primary villain. Apparently Peter Sarsgaard (Garden State, Jarhead), soon to be appearing in Johnny Depp’s Black Mask, is in talks to play antagonist baron Bartholomew Bogue.
Unfortunately along with Sarsgaard’s addition, the movie to be directed by Antoine Fuqua has seen former Game of Thrones star and soon to be Aquaman lead Jason Momoa drop out of the film. While a loss for sure, his departure still leaves the rather dazzling cast of Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Haley Bennett, Byung-Hun Lee and Matt Bomer to hold up the fort. The movie is shaping up nicely, whether it will be half the film of the original remains to be see. Here’s hoping.
