Canadian R&B artist Abel ‘the Weeknd’ Tesfaye has been arrested in Las Vegas on suspicion of misdemeanour battery of a protected person on the 10th of January. A spokesperson for the Las Vegas Metropolitan police department stated that he hit an officer on the side of the head as the police attempted to break up a fight. The officer suffered no injuries as a result, but the charges were placed and the Weeknd spent the weekend in the Clark County detention center. The singer has recently contributed music to the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie soundtrack and has an upcoming gig on the 16th of January in Las Vegas. The singer’s spokesperson has since mentioned that any updates regarding the case will most likely be released via social media. Sources confirm that The Weeknd has since been released and on January 11, the Weeknd posted a message on Instagram saying he had “escaped Las Vegas“.
