Popular online movie database, IMDb, has announced it will be closing its long-running discussion boards, in a statement on its website released only yesterday.
IMDb cited the decreasing “positive, useful experience for the vast majority” as one of the reasons behind the retirement of the discussion feature, in addition to data and traffic.
The discussion boards will be closed on Sunday, February 19, giving IMDb users a good two-week period to exchange contact information with other board users or archive board content.
Some users are sure to be disappointed with the conclusion of such a long-running feature, but IMDb’s Facebook and Twitter pages currently host audiences of more than 10 million engaged fans, so there are sure to be other platforms to discuss films on!
