Back in January 2015, confusion spread throughout the Blink-182 fandom when guitarist, Tom DeLonge, made his awkward departure from the band. Now, DeLonge has offered an explanation as to why he felt quitting was necessary.
A life-long fanatic of the extra-terrestrial, DeLonge has stated that he needed to quit in order to focus on his research of UFOs, which he describes as being a “national security issue”. He explained that continuing his work with Blink-182 wouldn’t have been practical alongside his investigation, saying “I can’t tour nine months out of the year with enough time to do the enormity of what I’m setting out to do.”
Since his departure, DeLonge has released the first book of a multimedia franchise named Sekret Machines, which will spread across books and documentary films. The franchise is to delve into “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena” and will feature music from Angels & Airwaves.
Sekret Machines Book 1: Chasing Shadows is out now.
