Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace are to star in new serial killer flick Child 44 , and this week it gets its first ever trailer. The thriller sees The Drop star Hardy taking on the role of a Soviet cop who’s on the hunt for a sinister serial killer in a country that refuses to believe this kind of killer could possibly exist outside of the US. Here’s the full synopsis;
“A politically-charged serial killer thriller set in 1953 Soviet Russia, CHILD 44 chronicles the crisis of conscience for secret police agent Leo Demidov (Tom Hardy), who loses status, power and home when he refuses to denounce his own wife, Raisa (Noomi Rapace), as a traitor. Exiled from Moscow to a grim provincial outpost, Leo and Raisa join forces with General Mikhail Nesterov (Gary Oldman) to track down a serial killer who preys on young boys. Their quest for justice threatens a system-wide cover-up enforced by Leo’s psychopathic rival Vasili (Joel Kinnaman), who insists “There is no crime in Paradise”.
Directed by Safe House’s Daniel Espinosa, Child 44 is based on the novel by Tom Rob Smith and looks like this could be a seriously good role for Hardy to sink his teeth into. Hardy’s at its best when divulging into a difficult and consuming role so I am very excited to see him in a role like this and with the likes of Gary Oldman and Joel Kinnaman, who did a knock out job in The Killing, this is a film I am seriously excited about.
