When rumours that Pixar would be making a Toy Story 4 were confirmed, fans were split over the decision, many feeling that Toy Story 3 ended on such a perfect note, that a fourth movie would just ruin the franchise. Still, whether we like it or not, there’s going to be another movie and there’s finally some details on what we can expect from the plot.
In an interview with Disney Latino (translated by SlashFilm), Pixar President Jim Morris confirmed that the fourth film would not be a follow up from the already formed Toy Story trilogy; “The third movie ended in a beautiful way and completed a trilogy. I think this movie is not part of this trilogy. It is a separate story, which in turn I do not know if will be continued. Never begin a project with that in mind“.
That just begs the question as to what exactly can we expect from the movie, something other than just one toy that needs rescuing by the others. Morris continued; “It is not a continuation of the end of the story of Toy Story 3. Temporarily it is, but it will be a love story. It will be a romantic comedy. It will not put much focus on the interaction between the characters and children. I think it will be a very good movie”.
Morris also commented that Toy Story weren’t continuing to make more films just for money’s sake and I guess if we’re taking that to be true, we can expect a good, genuinely heartwarming movie from Toy Story 4. Still, in saying that I feel like a romantic comedy based Toy Story would be better suited for one of Pixar’s brilliant shorts rather than a feature? Either way, we’re getting a feature film so I’m just going to sit back and enjoy. What do you guys think, are you up for a fourth Toy Story movie?
