In the wake of Prince’s passing this week, two albums from his discography have climbed the Billboard 200 albums chart at the first and second spots. According to Billboard, Prince’s The Very Best Of Prince sold 179,000 copies (of that sum, 100,000 were in traditional album sales) in one week, earning him his fifth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200.
Then there is Purple Rain. It holds the No. 2 position with 69,000 copies (63,000 in pure album sales). Another Prince album, his triple album The Hits/The B-Sides, re-enters at No. 6 with 41,000 units with 24,000 of that sum in album sales.
In the week ending April 21, Prince’s overall catalogue of albums sold 256,000 copies. Prince passed away at the age of 57 on Thursday, April 21 in his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota. The pop superstar’s remains were cremated and will be stored in a private location.
