In a continuation of his never-stopping approach to new musical projects, Ty Segall has released new single, “Alta” in collaboration with the Freedom Band, made up of Mikal Cronin on bass and vocals, Emmett Kelly on guitar and vocals, Charles Moothart on drums, and Ben Boye on keyboards. The new song comes only mere months after the release of his Fried Shallots EP and a self-titled EP.
While Segall has been frequently playing the song at live shows recently, this is the first time a studio version has been released. The song, an homage to his hometown, was recorded while on a break from touring this past spring. Starting with a melancholy piano intro, the song quickly returns to Segall’s garage roots with soaring guitar riffs and earnest vocals lamenting the more rural and green past of a now industrialized Alta, California.
