New York-based multi-genre duo Typhoon Roulette has released their first single in a year and it is entitled “Drive Thru”. The duo also announced that following this release, they will drop a new song every three weeks. By the end of the summer, the five songs will form an EP titled 5 Song Summer.
“Drive Thru” was both recorded and produced in the middle of the pandemic, after this it has spent the year waiting for the perfect moment to be released to everyone.
The single was influenced by early brit-rock and 2000’s pop. With this mix the track is painting a hypnotic picture of love, addiction, falling out and in love.
The duo is using dry and raw indie guitars which are paired with cyclical, deep, groove drums in order to create an addictive loop bound that will get into your head. “Drive Thru” was written, produced and engineered by Typhoon Roulette in their studio. Furthermore, it was mastered by technical veteran Chris Gehringer and it is definitely a sonic experience.
The EP 5 Song Summer that will land this summer will include a lot of musical genres from indie rock, indie pop, alternative hip hop to indie dance. Aaron Taos, who is a collaborator and friend of the duo, will be featured on one of the five songs of the EP.
Jack and Will, together composing Typhoon Roulette, both grew up in Connecticut and they met in 3rd grade on their local school bus route. In high school, they discovered that they both produced and wrote music so they decided to collaborate.
Their first single as a duo was released in 2019 and titled “Freeze Frame”. It was quickly followed by a seven songs debut independent EP with the same name. In May 2020, the duo returned with a pandemic anthem entitled “MIDAS”.
According to the duo, their music is influenced by their “mental nostalgic listening history” as they put it.
They also added: “Our music is a reflection of everything we’ve ever listened to and become vehemently obsessed with over the last 20 years of our lives… We input Gorillaz, Young Thug, Drake, Vampire Weekend, Clairo, whatever… we output Typhoon“.
