Today in “sequels nobody wants” news, comes the announcement from Vin Diesel (via his Instagram page, no less) that the third instalment of his spy franchise XxX begins filming in December. Although the 2002 original was a financial success, making $277 million worldwide, the 2005 follow-up that swapped Diesel for Ice Cube in the lead role was a box-office disaster, only making $71 million on the back of a $113 million budget.
Despite this, a sequel has been in the works for a year; with Vin Diesel currently riding high in the box office thanks to Furious 7, it seems producers are banking on him being a big enough star to revive a franchise that hasn’t been successful in over a decade, that nobody really wants a sequel to anyway.
