Comedy duo Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have not worked together for a movie since Baby Mama in 2008. So their new onscreen adventure Sisters (announced last summer) is incredibly exciting news, and now we have a full length trailer to prepare us for what looks like a hilarious journey into the comedy minds of our favorite leading funny ladies.
The trailer introduces us to sisters Jane (Fey) and Maura (Poehler) that return to their family home to find their parents are selling up. The pair decide to have a huge party in the house to commemorate its loss and events quickly turn to chaos. The trailer sets us up with what to expect from the characters with split screen introductions describing Maura as ‘the perfect sister’ and Jane as ‘the other sister’.
Jane is wonderfully hammed up as a somewhat cringe-worthy bad ass with Fey looking like she’s having the time of her life as only an adult throwing a teenage temper tantrum can! From these first scene snippets, we can tell that Fey does not intend to hold back and her genius awkward humour is applied marvelously to the role of this sexy wild child. Poehler’s Maura is shown doing something despicably uncomfortable to an old man in her hospital job, setting the tone for the kind of gross out humour these two actresses fearlessly dive into.
Poehler displays her cartoon-esque, sunny, offbeat charm as Maura, the sibling coerced into the ill advised party. From here on, the trailer showcases the pair masterfully bouncing off one another as only they can as their party plan spirals into comedy anarchy, a grown up parody of the teen movie genre staple. A highlight of the action is a sexual accident in the girls bedroom featuring Poehler and attractive neighbour guy Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project) involving a ballerina music box, check it out!
The movie was written by Fey and Poehler’s Saturday Night Live friend and collaborator Paula Pell and is produced by Fey herself along with Jay Roach and John Lyons, and Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) directs. James Brolin and Dianne Wiest play the girls’ parents with Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon and John Leguizamo also featuring. The movie is expected to be released next March but in the meantime, enjoy the trailer below.
