Upcoming singer-songwriter and recent Virgin EMI signee Zion recently premiered his brand new single “Friendzone” on BBC 1Xtra and with no time for delay, the 19 year old British-Nigerian artist from South London is treating us again with an incredible visual to match.
Directed by legendary African video director Sesan Ogunro, the video for “FriendZone” sees Zion head for the beach in South Africa where he takes in the picturesque scenery alongside his beautiful leading lady. It’s the perfect accompaniment to the track, a catchy slice of R&B that foregrounds his versatile vocals and mixes just a pinch of those enchanting Afrobashment influenced melodies.
Zion is really starting to find his vein as an artist – with his Afrobashment-tinged R&B serving him well with his previous smash “No Wahala” – a take on the Afrobeats classic “Premier Gaou” by legendary Ivorian group Magic System which has garnered over 700k streams since its release a month ago.
