Modern audiences will likely associate Batman as a serious if not stoic character with a tragic backstory, who fights complex psychotic villains. Due to the popularity of the Christopher Nolan directed movies and the upcoming, ludicrously named Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s easy to forget the more light-hearted, campier take on the comic book hero from the 1960s Batman TV show starring Adam West.
Sadly the original designer for the batmobile used on the show passed away yesterday (November 5). He died in his sleep at the age of 89, survived by his two children and the legacy of his work on the iconic Batman show. Below is a tweet from DC Comics with an old picture of George Barris standing next to the batmobile.
