First Look At Russell Crowe And Ryan Gosling In ‘The Nice Guys’ | Film News

The Nice Guys

The first look at ’70s crime film The Nice Guys has emerged via People. A single photo of lead men Ryan Gosling (left) and Russell Crowe (right) is the sole glimpse on offer, yet it shows promise. Gosling looks fitting in his polyester suit and dodgy tie, complete with a mustache and tinted shades while Crowe sports denim jeans and a pale blue shirt with a flared collar.

The ’70s is one of those eras that is hard not to highly aestheticise, yet director Shane Black seems to have found a way to maintain a feeling of seriousness without resorting to stereotypes. The Nice Guys sounds rather like The Pink Panther meets Chinatown: down-on-his-luck private eye Holland March (Gosling) partners up with enforcer Jackson Healy (Crowe) to solve a missing-girl mystery, with a dead porn star thrown in.

Shane Black is no stranger to this neo-noir comedy genre, having been involved with the writing of Lethal Weapon and Lethal Weapon 2 and also directing 2005’s Kiss Kiss Bang Bang; a film which serves as a spiritual predecessor to The Nice Guys. The film will also star Kim Basinger (who starred in L.A. Confidential with Crowe) and will be released May 20, 2016.
