First George Takei, then Will Wheaton, and now Simon Pegg; the list of Star Trek stars who weren’t overly fond of the first teaser trailer for Star Trek Beyond continues to grow. Over the past few days since its’ release Star Trek veteran George Takei was left saying ‘oh my’ to the latest film’s teaser trailer, claiming that it didn’t have that element that made Star Trek, Star Trek. Quickly after this, Star Trek: The Next Generation star Will Wheaton tweeted saying: “I saw the weirdest trailer today. It was for a generic science fiction action movie, but it was all dressed up in Star Trek costumes.” Ouch.

Now one of the writers of the film, Simon Pegg, has weighed-in with his verdict: “I didn’t love it.” We’ve got to applaud him for his honesty and speaking to HeyUGuys he did have some comforting words for Trekkies out there: “I find it to be… the marketing people sort of saying ‘everybody come and see this film, it’s full of action and fun’ when there’s a lot more to it than that… there’s a lot more story and a lot more character stuff and a lot more of what I would call Star Trek stuff.

Despite these reassuring words, Star Trek fans will have their guards up, hoping that Fast & Furious director Justin Lin can deliver the goods. Star Trek Beyond stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Idris Elba and Zoe Saldana and will arrive in cinemas July 22, 2016.
