‘The Purge’ Franchise Gets Green Light For New Installment | Film News

The Purge has gotten the green light from Universal, Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes to move forward with the fourth installment in its franchise.

Creator, James DeMonaco, who wrote and directed the previous three films, will be writing the untitled Next Purge Chapter but has declined to direct. The plot and concept are currently unknown, but the release date has been set for July 2018.

The first film of the franchise, The Purge (2013), surprised all when, despite mixed reviews, the film grossed $89.3 million against a $3 million budget. The following sequels, The Purge: Anarchy (2014) and The Purge: Election Year (2016) further cemented the franchise’s status as a commercial success.

Producers of the untitled Next Purge Chapter include Jason Blum, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, Andrew Form and Sébastien K. Lemercier.
