Now this is what I call going to an art gallery. Sky Arts has swapped seven paintings in art galleries across Britain, replacing them with fakes. The question is, can the public find them. Sky Arts have said the show has been organised with the full cooperation of the galleries – so they haven’t quietly snuck in and ‘borrowed’ them without asking – including the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, and the Walker Art Gallery.
Each episode will focus on a specific period in British art, Director of Sky Arts Phil Edgar-Jones commented on the show saying:
“You don’t have to be an art historian to have a go at this, all you need is a sense of curiosity and an eye for detail. We wanted to tell the story of British art with a sense of fun, and in a way that would encourage us all to take a closer and more critical look at the works of great British artists”.
