“I don’t give a sh*t about anything, yet I simultaneously have opinions about everything”.
Five years ago, viewers were introduced to Hannah, a narcissist and anxious aspiring writer and her four equally eccentric friends. The show offered a no-filter idea of what finding your own path is really all about or as Hannah puts it at the start of the show: “I have work, then a dinner thing, and then I am busy trying to become who I am”.
There was the over responsible Marnie, the naïve Shoshanna and the free-spirited and irresponsible Jessa. The new trailer is out and we can already see that they are all back with all their revered imperfections.
Girls, if unconventional, had a major cultural impact. We all remember the awkward moments, unglamorous sex scenes and honest and harsh dialogues that Lena Dunham filled her episodes with. But if anything, Girls introduced us to realistic characters or at the very least much more relatable ones.
Executive producer, Judd Apatow says about Dunham that, “She completely changed the landscape. There’s an enormous amount of fantastic TV that followed in the footsteps of Girls. There was really no precedent for that level of honesty and boldness”.
We cannot wait to see on what note Girls’ will end but as producer, Jennifer Konner, so rightfully puts it: “But then if the audience was entirely pleased, it wouldn’t be Girls, would it?”.
The final chapter of Girls will air on HBO on the 12th of February.
