Baby Driver is the recently-released action film directed by Edgar Wright (known for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and The World’s End). It stars: Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Kevin Spacey, Jon Bernthal, Jon Hamm, and Jamie Foxx. A synopsis for Baby Driver via IMDB reads: “After being coerced into working for a crime boss, a young getaway driver finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail”.
Elgort is the main actor in this film, playing Baby: someone who’s in debt with some criminals. To pay them back, he must use his driving skills to help with a number of heists. During all this, he falls in love with a waitress (Lily James) who makes him realise that he’s more than just a criminal. He then tries to escape his life of crime, but soon realizes that it’s not so easy.
Wright did an extraordinary job with the film in terms of music, which fits so well in its respective scenes. This, combined with great acting all around, makes for one of the most entertaining films I’ve seen in a long time. Hamm, Foxx, Spacey, and Eiza González did their parts well and portrayed convincing unstable killers.
Baby Driver was well-paced, gripping, and made me want to watch it from the beginning again. The film has relatable characters and in terms of action, it’s the most adrenaline-inducing I’ve experienced in years. Additionally, the dialogue was some of the wittiest I have heard from a film in a long time.
Baby Driver is a movie with a perfect blend of action, comedy, and a great soundtrack. I think it’s one of the best of 2017, making it a must-see, especially if you are a fan of rock and soul music from different decades.
I tried to find some flaws with the film, but I genuinely couldn’t!
All in all, it’s a 9 out of 10 from me.
