Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years A Slave) and Josh Gad (Beauty & The Beast) have both signed on for zombie comedy Little Monsters from Australian writer and director Abe Forsythe.
The film will follow Dave, played by Alexander England, a washed-up musician who volunteers to chaperone his nephew’s class field trip after taking a shine to schoolteacher Miss Caroline. Dave’s intentions are complicated by the presence of the world’s most famous kids show personality, Teddy McGiggle.
One thing none of them bargained for however, is a sudden zombie outbreak, from which Dave and Miss Caroline must protect the children.
The film has received major investment from Screen Australia, and Head of Production Sally Caplan said: “Little Monsters is an utterly charming and seemingly-impossible meld of zombie horror with romantic comedy that we expect will have genuine crossover appeal for audiences”.
While this likely won’t be Nyong’o’s most memorable outing of her career, having already won an Oscar and set to appear in both Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Black Panther within the next few months, her, Gad and England are a solid cast for an intriguing sounding zombie-horror-comedy. We’ll reserve obvious comparisons to Shaun Of The Dead until the film is released.
Filming on Little Monsters began this month in Sydney.
