Scoot McNairy Joins ‘True Detective’ Season 3 Cast | TV News

After the disappointment of season two of True Detective, it seems creator Nic Pizzolatto and HBO are pulling out all the stops to make season three a bounce back season closer to the tremendous success of the first season.

They’re going about that in various ways, such as giving Pizzolatto more time to write the episodes and having just one principle director for the whole season, but one of the obvious ways is getting as good of a cast as possible. The show has now added Scoot McNairy (Godless, Monsters) to the season three cast, joining Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo and Stephen Dorff.

McNairy is a smart choice as he’s well versed in TV. Aside from recently starring in Netflix’s mini-series Godless, he also turned in four seasons on Halt And Catch Fire. McNairy will reportedly play Tom, “a father who suffers a terrible loss that ties his fate to that of two state police detectives over 10 years”.

Right now, casting details are the only major details coming out from the show, as the plot is relatively under wraps, and we don’t know how many episodes the third season will contain, nor when the season will premiere. Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room, Blue Ruin) will direct the entire season, and Pizzolatto has written every episode apart from one, which he co-wrote with David Milch (Deadwood).

We do know, thanks to HBO boss Casey Bloys, that the show will return in 2019. We don’t know when, but hopefully it’s closer to the start of the year than the end. Excitement is building.
