The currently untitled Men In Black spinoff already has its two new leads lined up ready to battle some alien foes – Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson – but another big name might be getting ready to join the cast. Per Variety, Liam Neeson is in negotiations to join the film and take on the role of the head of the U.K. branch of MIB.
Neeson’s potential role has been described as being similar to the one Rip Torn occupied in the first two films. As for plot details, the few snippets that have come to light thus far are that the plot will likely revolve around Thompson’s Em trying to prove herself by joining the London MIB and being paired with Hemsworth’s Agent H, before the duo become entangled in a murder mystery.
Hemsworth also spilled a few details about the film when on the Avengers: Infinity War red carpet last month:
“We’re developing the script now. We’re basically trying to put a lot of humour in to it like the previous ones. These are obviously some big big shoes to fill, so we’re working our butts off on it to make something pretty epic and fun. They’re trying to change up the locations, make it feel unique and different to the last ones as well”.
Hemsworth and Thompson both also expressed their excitement to team up with one another once again after their collaboration in Thor: Ragnarok. The spinoff itself is being fast-tracked with Matt Holloway and Art Marcum (Transformers: The Last Knight) penning the script and F. Gary Gray (The Fate Of The Furious, Straight Outta Compton) set to direct.
More details regarding the film will likely emerge soon, and it will be interesting to see how the spinoff intertwines with the main franchise, which despite its origins in the late 90s had a third outing with original stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones back in 2012. Neeson likely signing on for a role will only help the movie, which is already set for a June 14, 2019 release.
