Matt Smith is on the search for the ‘patient zero’ in the trailer for his next flick about a post-apocalyptic future where the majority of humankind has been turned into predators.
The movie, aptly called Patient Zero, stars an exceptional cast, including Stanley Tucci in the role of the villain/highly evolved predator and Natalie Dormer, of Game of Thrones fame, as a young scientist looking for a cure.
The official synopsis for the movie reads as follow: “In the pandemic thriller, Patient Zero, humanity is battling intelligent, adrenaline-fueled creatures born from a viral super-strain. After being bitten, human survivor Morgan (Matt Smith) realizes he is asymptomatic and can communicate with the infected, leading the last survivors on a hunt for Patient Zero and a cure.”
There have been plenty of movies exploiting the zombie-infected genres. From comedies to thriller and horrors, there is always an excuse for a new post-apocalyptic movie where few people fight for the future of human kind.
Patient Zero, in cinemas on September 21, falls into this category, with a plot that doesn’t look neither groundbreaking or remotely fresh, but has the perks of having some really interesting names attached to it.
Pulling a ‘chosen one’ kind of situation, Matt Smith is the only guy who has been bitten but not turned, and, therefore is able to communicate with the infected. Stanley Tucci (what are you even doing here?) plays the hybrid and evolved victim who represents the only chance to find a cure, while Natalie Dormer, who most recently played a blind woman in In Darkness, is the mind behind the scientific team in search for said cure.
Apart from the last scene, where a turned-asssasin rat is trying to get the best out of Natalie Dormer’s character, the movie doesn’t look half bad. The names involved should be able to save even the dumbest of movies and, given that this one is certainly not aiming for an Oscar, Let’s at least hope that it will provide some action and kick ass moment.
