Fox has given a 13-episode straight-to-series order to the animated show Bless The Harts, a half-hour comedy series from Emily Spivey (The Last Man On Earth) and executive producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Jillian Bell and Ike Barinholtz will lend their voices to the show, which is slated to air during the 2019-2020 season.
Created by Spivey, Bless The Harts will follow a group of southerners who are perennially broke and struggling to achieve the quintessential American dream of status and wealth. Fortunately they have plenty of friends and family to share their predicament with, and maybe share a few laughs out of it.
It’s an impressive cast that’s been assembled for what sounds like a pretty run-of-the-mill animated sitcom. Since being taken over by Michael Thorn, Fox has doubled down on two major things for their primetime schedule: sitcoms, and live weekly entertainment.
The latter is in the form of their hefty acquisitions of both Thursday Night Football and WWE Smackdown, while the former is the revival of the Tim Allen sitcom Last Man Standing, and now Bless The Harts. Spivey, Lord and Miller being behind the project is a cause for optimism though, despite the relatively unoriginal synopsis.
As Spivey focuses on this, Lord and Miller are also developing Business As Usual, an Office-esque single camera comedy that revolves around everyday employees at a company in crisis. On the film side of things, they have co-written the script for the upcoming animated feature Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, which hits cinemas in December.
