Last year’s Murder On The Orient Express – the fourth adaptation of Agatha Christie‘s famed novel following the original 1974 film, a 2001 made-for-TV movie, and a 2010 episode of Agatha Christie’s Poirot – proved to be a hit for 20th Century Fox, reeling in $351.8 million worldwide from just a $55 million budget. Thus, of course, a follow-up film was quickly commissioned.
This time it’s Death On The Nile, another of Christie’s famous novels that sees the return of famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. Like the first film, this adaptation is expected to be headlined by an all-star cast, and we already have news of the first star to sign on to the project.
Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot, has signed on to star in the film, which will once again be directed by Kenneth Branagh, who also stars as Poirot. Gadot will play Linnet Ridgeway Doyle, a rich heiress who recently married the former fiancee of an old friend and approaches Poirot for help.
The story finds the detective on holiday in Egypt when be becomes involved in a love triangle that has gone very wrong. This film will also take place in mostly one location, this time on the Karnak, a paddle steamer touring Egypt along the Nile river. Michael Green, who wrote the script for the first film, is once again on board and penning the screenplay for the sequel.
It’s likely that we’ll soon hear plenty more casting news for the film, but getting Gadot on board is a great start to what will be another stacked cast. She’s currently mid-production on Wonder Woman 1984, scheduled to hit cinemas November 1, 2019, while Death On The Nile is currently set for a December 20, 2019 release.
