Zoey Deutch Joins Cast Of ‘Zombieland 2’ | Film News

The Zombieland sequel, which has been rumoured for years, was finally confirmed earlier in 2018 to the delight of fans. With the original cast of Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Abigail Breslin returning, the sequel has now added its first new face, Zoey Deutch.

Deutch hit it big earlier this year with the hit Netflix romantic comedy Set It Up, while also appearing in the sadly underseen indie Flower, where she played a fascinating, abrasive protagonist. Her role in Zombieland 2 is not yet known, but she’ll be a terrific addition to an already great cast who have only grown in stature in the decade since the first film arrived.

Ruben Fleischer, hot off directing Venom for Sony, will return to helm the sequel, directing from a script written by Deadpool scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. As for plot, we know the original foursome will be facing off against several new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first film, as well as another group of human survivors.

It will be interesting to see how the sequel tackles the zombie genre in 2019. We’re now in a post-Walking Dead world, and the rules have somewhat changed, and audiences are used to the tropes of the genre more than ever. This wasn’t a problem back in 2009, so the sequel has some interesting hurdles in its way.

Not to mention that Sony will want a large profit, considering that it likely cost them an arm and a leg to reunite a cast that has only gotten more famous (and expensive) in the intervening years, especially Eisenberg and Stone, who recently won an Oscar.

We’ll wait to hear what role Deutch is playing; it’s possible she’s a part of the other group of human survivors. Production is slated to begin in January and the film is set to arrive next October, just in time for the tenth anniversary of the original film.
