Bond 25 has taken a long and arduous road through development with the initial will he/won’t he return drama surrounding Daniel Craig, then the potential financial issues, and finally the saga of Danny Boyle signing on to direct before leaving the project. Even with all this in the past, very little is still actually known about the specifics of the project, but we do know one famous face that will be returning.
Breaking franchise tradition, Léa Seydoux will reprise her role as Dr. Madeleine Swann from Spectre and return for this film. It’s already been announced that Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris and Ben Whishaw will return, but there aren’t many instances of a so-called Bond Girl returning for the follow-up film.
But during Craig’s tenure as Bond, the series has sought to continue certain storylines – most notably the link from Casino Royale to Quantum Of Solace – but with Cary Fukunaga now at the helm and the film being an anniversary of sorts, many expected a brand new standalone narrative, but it seems that may not be the case.
Bond veterans Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have penned the script for this instalment, but Fukunaga has reportedly added his own stamp to the project too. Considering that this very well may be Craig’s final go-around as 007, and that the film will bring back his romantic interest from the previous film, there could be the potential for a definitive finale for this incarnation of 007.
The film was initially slated to hit cinemas in November 2019, but the release date was pushed back after Boyle’s exit, moving the film from the recent tradition of a November release to a February one, where it is is set to arrive on Valentine’s Day 2020.
